{"id":4240,"date":"2014-08-14T11:38:44","date_gmt":"2014-08-14T11:38:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ballymenachamber.co.uk\/?p=4240"},"modified":"2014-08-14T11:40:28","modified_gmt":"2014-08-14T11:40:28","slug":"marcon-builds-new-mcdonalds-in-belfast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ballymenachamber.co.uk\/?p=4240","title":{"rendered":"Marcon builds new McDonald\u2019s in Belfast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Chamber member Marcon Fit-Out\u00a0is putting the finishing touches to a major new McDonald\u2019s restaurant in Belfast.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The building at Boucher Road is the\u00a0global restaurant\u00a0chain\u2019s\u00a0first new\u00a0build\u00a0restaurant in Northern Ireland\u00a0since 2001.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4242\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/ballymenachamber.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/MCDS_STORY1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"679\" height=\"455\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ballymenachamber.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/MCDS_STORY1.jpg 679w, https:\/\/ballymenachamber.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/MCDS_STORY1-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 679px) 100vw, 679px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Marcon\u00a0is currently completing\u00a0works to the new build project, at what will be the 27th\u00a0McDonald\u2019s restaurant in Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a084-seater\u00a0restaurant\u00a0featuring a two-lane drive-thru\u00a0is due to open on 19th August. It\u00a0will employ\u00a0120, including 80 new staff.<\/p>\n<p>Marcon\u00a0has\u00a0undertaken more than 200 jobs\u00a0for McDonald\u2019s in\u00a0recent years\u00a0across Northern Ireland, Scotland and the north of England, including reimages, extensions, refurbishments and\u00a0installing\u00a0dual\u00a0drive-thru lanes.<\/p>\n<p>But\u00a0the\u00a0\u00a32\u00a0million project\u00a0to create the\u00a0building\u00a0in Belfast\u00a0represents Marcon\u2019s\u00a0largest contract win\u00a0from the\u00a0world\u2019s biggest\u00a0restaurant chain to date \u2013 and its first full new build\u00a0restaurant\u00a0for McDonald\u2019s.\u00a0\u00a0Marcon\u00a0began work on the\u00a027-week build programme\u00a0at the start of February.<\/p>\n<p>Company director\u00a0Mark O\u2019Connor said:\u00a0<em>\u201cThe fact that McDonald\u2019s have entrusted\u00a0us with this project reflects what we have done in the past. I am confident this project will lead to many more opportunities for us\u00a0in the future.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThere\u00a0are plans for other new builds in Northern Ireland over the next five years, as well as numerous projects across the UK,\u00a0and\u00a0this demonstrates our capabilities.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>McDonald\u2019s franchisee Paul Connan, who\u00a0will operate Boucher Road,\u00a0said:\u00a0<em>\u201cWe wanted a Northern Ireland company to do the work on this project.\u00a0Marcon always\u00a0do a quality job.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And Mr Connan, who runs five other McDonald\u2019s\u00a0restaurants\u00a0across Northern Ireland, added: <em>\u201cI am delighted\u00a0with Marcon\u2019s\u00a0work at Boucher Road.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Marcon\u00a0said\u00a0around 200 people have been\u00a0employed during\u00a0the construction phase of the project.\u00a0And\u00a0Marcon, which employs\u00a038\u00a0people, has mainly used\u00a0local\u00a0sub-contractors during the build programme.<\/p>\n<p>Located close to Broadway Roundabout at the end of the Westlink and the start of the M1 motorway, the traditional build structure is the first of a new breed of McDonald\u2019s restaurant in Northern Ireland with its fresh, modern design.<\/p>\n<p>Marcon, which is preparing to mark\u00a0its 10th\u00a0anniversary,\u00a0was\u00a0named as\u00a0\u201cUK Contractor of the\u00a0Year\u201d\u00a0by McDonald\u2019s\u00a0last year. \u00a0Its work with McDonald\u2019s has\u00a0led to the creation of five new jobs.<\/p>\n<p>Company director\u00a0Mark O\u2019Connor further explained: <em>\u201cMcDonald\u2019s has shown great commitment to us. We have McDonald\u2019s work on our books up until 2018.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0company\u00a0is\u00a0manufacturing bespoke items for the\u00a0new\u00a0Belfast\u00a0restaurant at its workshop in Antrim.<\/p>\n<p>Mr O\u2019Connor explained: <em>\u201cBy manufacturing the specialist joinery\u00a0ourselves we can control the quality of the furniture. The new restaurant features counters, tables, panelling, vanity units and partitions which have been made in Antrim.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0building at Boucher Road\u00a0will also be the most\u00a0\u2018green\u2019\u00a0McDonald\u2019s restaurant in Northern Ireland.\u00a0Features include solar panels, low voltage lighting, waterless urinals and an environmentally friendly air conditioning system.<\/p>\n<p>There are currently 1,300 McDonald\u2019s restaurants across the UK which\u00a0serve approximately three million people every day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chamber member Marcon Fit-Out\u00a0is putting the finishing touches to a major new McDonald\u2019s restaurant in Belfast.
